Automatica 2025: Photoneo Unveils AI Bin Picking Software Ahead of Automatica and Teases Exclusive Preview of A New 3D Sensor at the Show
The AI-powered software update, featuring Bin Picking Studio 1.10 and Locator Studio 1.3, introduces "Dedicated Tote Detection & Multi-Neural Network" capabilities, promising to redefine vision-guided robotics (VGR) intelligence.
Photoneo, now part of Zebra Technologies, a leading provider of 3D vision and robotic intelligence, will put two next-generation products into the spotlight at Automatica 2025 in Munich - Booth #227, Hall B5. It's Bin picking software featuring updated AI capabilities, plus a new never-before-seen 3D Sensor.
The AI-powered software update, featuring Bin Picking Studio 1.10 and Locator Studio 1.3, introduces "Dedicated Tote Detection & Multi-Neural Network" capabilities, promising to redefine vision-guided robotics (VGR) intelligence.
Following up on their latest MotionCam-3D Color (Blue) launch, Photoneo will also debut an all-new 3D sensor in the blue laser family, engineered to push the boundaries of precision and reliability in industrial automation. While details remain under wraps until the show, this breakthrough technology is designed to tackle the most challenging scanning scenarios - see submillimeter features, scan at even greater distances, and handle even more challenging materials, scenes, and conditions.
Attendees at Booth #227, Hall B5, will get an exclusive first look at how this sensor - combined with Photoneo's AI-powered automation software - creates a game-changing synergy for vision-guided robotics.
The new software suite is packed with intelligent features, enhanced performance, and integrator-focused improvements, delivering smarter vision and greater control in logistics and diverse robotic applications.
"We are immensely proud to bring this significant evolution in robotic intelligence to Automatica 2025," said Svorad Stolc, CTO at Photoneo. "The introduction of dedicated AI for Tote localization and the flexibility of switching between multiple AI models in our Bin Picking Studio represents a leap forward. Our customers can expect dramatically improved performance, easier integration, and the ability to automate a wider range of complex applications."
Key Breakthroughs in the New Bin Picking Release Include:
• AI Tote Localization Module: A dedicated AI engine ensures precise tote detection, even with deformed rims, specifically engineered for logistics applications involving standardized totes. This module employs a powerful neural network and advanced post-processing to confidently localize totes empty, filled, or with bent rims, determining the tote's center and its specific orientation.
• Seamless Neural Network Switching: Users can now configure and manage multiple neural networks within a single solution, strategically assigning a dedicated network (pre-trained or custom) to each vision system. This allows for optimal performance per task or object and the ability to switch between networks on the fly.
• Parallel Multi-Perspective 3D Scanning: Leveraging Photoneo's red and blue laser 3D sensor technologies, the system can now scan simultaneously. This drastically shortens scan acquisition time as the distinct laser wavelengths operate without mutual interference, effectively halving data capture periods in many applications and ensuring unparalleled 3D data completeness.
• Extended CAD Localization Insights & Diagnostics: The software provides deeper object-level data and automatically saves 3D scans during suboptimal performance instances. This targeted data collection offers integrators crucial diagnostic material for precise analysis, parameter adjustment, and faster fine-tuning.
• Expanded Robot Integration: Seamless deployment is now possible with newly supported robotic brands, including HD Hyundai and Epson, alongside an expanded robot model database for existing brands.
